Cords & Knitted Wire Mesh Gaskets

Knitted Wire Mesh Cords and Gaskets

Thin knitted tubes or overknits with a core made of elastic materials are used where conventional sealing methods fail. Special materials are often used to meet demanding requirements.

Thin wires allow us to knit very narrow widths, making our cords appear almost delicate, while still being durable and resilient.

  • Hollow cords maintain their diameter and form a tube-like structure, ideal for applications such as (gas) electrodes made from knitted mesh.
  • In solid cords, the inside of the knitted tube is also filled with wire, making them well-suited for high-temperature sealing applications.

We can also overknit existing materials, such as elastomer or fiberglass seals, using specialized machines. This creates electrically conductive layers or adds protection against mechanical stress. The wire specification and the number of knitted outer layers are precisely adapted to each specific application.

Your requirements are unique? So are our gaskets.

Whether it's a thermally resistant hollow cord, an electrically conductive overknit, or a robust solid cord – we develop the perfect sealing solution for your application.
Precisely manufactured, long-lasting in use, and tailored to your specific requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) –
Cords and Gaskets

When are knitted wire mesh cords and gaskets used?

They are used when conventional sealing methods are no longer sufficient. Ideal for high-temperature gaskets or for creating electrically conductive connections by overknitting existing materials.

What’s the difference between hollow cords and solid cords?

  • Hollow cords form a kind of tube and are used, for example, as (gas) electrodes.
  • Solid cords have a fully filled interior, making them well-suited for sealing applications.

What types of cords does GDW Rhodius KMS offer?

We offer hollow cords, solid cords, and overknits – each tailored to the specific application, e.g., for temperature, pressure, or EMC requirements.

How are solid cords manufactured at GDW Rhodius KMS?

Solid cords consist of one or more inner layers, which are folded using a special process and then overknitted with an outer layer.

What dimensions are available?

  • Hollow cords typically have diameters between 5 and 20 mm.
  • Solid cords can be produced with diameters up to 210 mm.

What wire diameters are typically used?

For our cords and gaskets, we typically use wire diameters from 0.03 mm to 0.20 mm.
